Craig Herring

Principal, MS

Craig Herring is the new principal at Walt Whitman Middle School. He obtained his master’s degree in education from the University of Virginia, and served as the school’s vice principal for the past two years. Herring first joined Fairfax County Public Schools in 1994 as a teacher. He previously worked at the FCPS central office as well as at West Potomac and McLean high schools.

Herring has spent the last few years getting to know both students and staff and is confident in what they can accomplish. As principal, he wants to push students to success with greater academic rigor but also wants to keep them “well-rounded and healthy.” Herring is enthusiastic about his new position and the bright future ahead, “I’m looking forward to continuing the relationships I’ve already made and establishing new ones with those of you I have not met yet.”
