Our Safe Return to School: In-Person Learning Updates
As we plan for the safe return of students to in-person learning, it is important that families are kept informed. This communication will outline several new procedures and guidelines that will be in place at Herndon to ensure everyone’s health and safety.
VIP Camp for Summer 2021
VIP CAMP Summer 2021
FCPS in partnership with Neighborhood and Community Services will be hosting VIP Camp (Values in Prevention) at Sandburg Middle School. The camp will be June 28-July29 from 9:00AM-3:00PM. The camp will consist of Sports, STEAM, Coding, Cooking and much more!
Stephen Foster Construction Project
Stephen Foster Tennis Construction – April 19, 2021
The project on the Stephen Foster Tennis court reconstruction is moving along well. Contractors demolished the practice wall within the first few days of starting. They have erected a new concrete wall and removed the forms. The next phase will move into the courts and the rest of the project here soon. The project is still slated to finish this summer. Stay tuned for updates!

Whitman Student in the Spotlight by Drone Forward, Inc.
Whitman Middle student has been selected as the Spotlight Student by Drone Forward, Inc., for his drive and enthusiasm for learning. James recently participated in the organization’s drone and robotics entrepreneurship course. His concept—Solar Drones—proposes the creation of solar-powered batteries that would provide unlimited flying power for drones possibly impacting industries involved in delivering medicine across the world.
Walt Whitman Gym Gear
Hey Wildcats time to update your athletic wardrobe with some new Whitman Gear. You will be redirected to My School Bucks website to login, shop and purchase new gym clothing. Items can only be purchased through My School Bucks website. Please allow 48 hours for processing. Items can only be picked up at Whitman MS (No Shipping) at Door #1 (Main Entrance). *Dry-Fit Shirts are a limited supply.
COVID-19 Vaccination Appointment Scheduling
People 16 years and older may schedule an appointment to receive one of the three available free COVID-19 vaccines at Fairfax County Health Department clinics, the Tysons Community Vaccination Center, or the George Mason University. A parent or other adult (18 years and over) must physically accompany a minor at the COVID-19 vaccine appointment.
No-Cost Meals for All FCPS Students through June 30, 2021
Grab and Go meal sites are open 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Meal Kits sites distribute each Monday from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., or until supplies are exhausted. Buses distributing meals are operating Monday through Friday. Meals will be available at no-cost Monday-Friday at all schools with in-person instruction. Specific information about meal distribution locations and bus distribution schedules are available.
Walt Whitman Virtual Back to School Night Program
Walt Whitman Back to School Night Program September 21, 2020 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Parents will have an opportunity to meet with school administrators and learn about the vision of Whitman Middle School.
Parent Technology Help Desk
To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, Fairfax County Public Schools now has a Parent Technology Help Desk. The number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. If the help desk is unable to solve the issue on the phone with the parent or guardian, they will enter a ticket on the parent’s behalf and the request for help will be transferred to the appropriate FCPS team.
